These things are MINT!
And they smell like the 70's
Now comes the decisions......
Dye them black to match the seats and the already painted dash and quarter trims, or somehow strip the paint from the dash and quarter trims back to original red to match the panels, and have the seats dyed?
*car was originally silver with red interior

Well, do you want a red interior?

Depends on what’s going to take more work.... between now and putting the car back together I might even find a set of black door panels and trade/sell the reds.

I cannot think of the word Mint without hearing David Freiburger saying it on roadkill.

two tone interior could be fun instead! red and black makes for a good combo.

I’d go to a black interior just for ease of replacement. Black interior stuff seems to be the most common.

You saw what I did there

Counter-point: Everybody and their brother has a black interior for that reason, and red is much more interesting.

My first Firebird was white and black.... so yeah I could see a black & red combo working..

Also true, but if you are dying parts to “match” it had better be a good match.

“... I’ll take it blackity black-black,
Filled with blackness
Devoid of all light
Think of the blackest thing you can imagine
And double that blackness
And take a black magic marker and fill in the gaps
And put that in a black rocket ship and shoot it into the depths of black space
And close your eyes . . .
. . . And use that as a reference.” - Brian Regan
Taken out of context, but you get his point.
If it were me, I’d take it red. Reddity red-red. Filled with redness. Filled with red light. Think of the reddest thing you can imagine and double that redness and take a red magic marker and fill in the gaps and put that in a red rocket ship and shoot it to the nearest red giant and close your eyes while staring at that red giant... and use that as a reference. - BicycleBuck

I’d go for the red because it’s more interesting, everybody has a black interior.

do you know what was used to paint the rest of the trim? Is it holding up well or peeling/scratching?

No idea. Its worn thin in a lot of areas.

Dye the panels. My 79 Camaro had a carmine interior and sun made the panels 20 different shades of red (including magenta). I’d be willing to bet that a similar fate befell your TA’s interior at some point. Keeping it black makes it all.more uniform. Besides, it was red overload in these cars. Even had red carpet to match.

alot of the various models were optioned in two tone. black and red would work well I think. mine has a blue dash, blue console, (had) blue carpet but the seats, door panels, and headliner are white. if you want to go with a somewhat factory look, maybe you should leave the dash black and dye the seats red.

Yeah the seats are what’s throwing the whole 2 tone thing off. They’re in need of dyeing anyways.
My Esprit was black dash/console/carpet and white everything else. Quite pimp if I may say so.

I love the vinyl but mine is technically “oyster” not white which nobody except the really high end people match. At least they make the blue carpet.

Just use black vinyl spray paint if you wanted to be cheap... it’s easier to paint them black than to carefully remove the vinyl from the cardboard backing (though I’m not sure how dying works tbh). Also, did you get the bolts that hold the arm rests to the doors? If you did can you tell me what size they are?

I have a couple long coarse screws that came with the armrests, not sure if they’re original. I haven’t looked at the doors to see how they mount yet.

Yeah, they should be stupidly long really coarse screws. I can’t find an easy replacement anywhere so I had a random long coarse bolt and turned it into a screw with a grinder.

I don’t think that bottom one is original....
Those came out of the lower mounting holes. I have nothing for the uppers. The panels came with most of the clips intact though, so hooray for that!
